Plain terms for a small app made by one person. Using Dad Speaks Chinese means agreeing to them.
What you get
A subscription to the app: the drills, the podcast, the phrases, and the ability to record at home and turn what was said into something you can practise. Seven sessions are free before you are asked to pay, so you can find out whether it suits you first.
What it costs
$9.99 a month, or $99.99 a year. Payment is handled by our reseller, who appears on your statement and issues your receipt. Prices may change, but not for a subscription already running — you would be told before a renewal at a new price.
Cancelling
Cancel whenever you like and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Nothing is taken after that. We do not require a reason and there is nothing to negotiate on the way out.
Your account
One account per person, and it is yours to keep secure. Tell us if you think someone else is using it. Do not share a login around — not because of a rule, but because the app schedules what to teach from what you personally have practised, and two people inside one account teaches neither of them properly.
What this app is not
It is a tool for practising, not a teacher, a qualified translator or a guarantee. The Mandarin in it was chosen for a particular situation — a parent talking to a small child at home — and it is deliberately narrow. It will not prepare you for an exam, a business meeting or a hospital. Pronunciation and readings follow Taiwanese usage; a mainland accent is available for the voices, but the written forms stay Traditional.
Recording other people
Only record your own household, and only where everyone who can be heard is content to be. Do not upload recordings of other people's children. What happens to a recording is described on the privacy page.
Fair use
There are daily limits on recording and on how much the app will generate for one account in a day. They are set well above ordinary use and exist to stop a runaway script, not to ration you. If you hit one in normal use, tell us and we will raise it.
Stopping
We may close an account that is being used to abuse the service or other people, and will refund the unused part if we do. You may close yours at any time, and everything in it is deleted.
Liability
The app is provided as it is. It is a language-practice app costing a few pounds a month, and our liability is limited to what you have paid in the last twelve months. Nothing here removes rights you have under consumer law where you live.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
